Emergency Medicine Clerkship

Clinical medicine is built on a foundation of basic medical sciences.

The Emergency Medicine clerkship provides the medical student with an in-depth exposure to Emergency Medicine as a specialty and career choice. They will interact with a wide variety of undifferentiated patients and problems, with a goal of improving the students’ skill in acute care decision-making, a beneficial skill for all physicians. This will expose the student to the diagnostic, therapeutic, and procedural skills required for the management of acute illness and injury. The student will function at the level of a sub-intern and will be involved in all aspects of emergency care including the performance of necessary procedures. From the patient’s initial presentation through diagnosis and development of the treatment plan, it is expected that the student will gain knowledge and confidence in his or her clinical skills.
