Gastroenterology Clerkship

Clinical medicine is built on a foundation of basic medical sciences.

During the Gastroenterology portion of the Internal Medicine Clerkship, students will be exposed to patients with a variety of acute and chronic gastroenterological illnesses and diseases. At the completion of the gastroenterology section, students are expected to be able to create a differential diagnosis based on a thorough history and physical examination, as well as plan the diagnostic work-up to improve patient outcome. They should also be able to interpret the various imaging techniques, enzyme studies and function tests involved with the diagnosis of acute and chronic abdominal pathologies.
