Hematology & Oncology Clerkship

Clinical medicine is built on a foundation of basic medical sciences.

During the Hematology and Oncology portion of the Internal Medicine Clerkship students will be exposed to a wide variety of cases involving a broad span of hematologic pathologies as well as a broad varieties of different cancers. Throughout this section of the clerkship students are expected to master common hematologic diseases such as anemia, platelet and white cell disorders, and coagulation disorders. Additionally they will be expected to interpret blood smears and pertinent lab results to create a differential diagnosis as well as the management and treatment of malignant diseases. Lastly they will become more familiar with chemotherapy, including the practical aspects of its administration and management of their toxicities.
